Since 26th November 2008, Powernext provides spot and futures natural gas contracts on the French PEGs. The members participate to the setup of reliable price references allowing the market participants to cover their volume and price risks from Within-Day to the next three gas seasons. Powernext publishes Powernext® Gas Spot DAP (Daily Average Price) price references and the settlement prices of Powernext® Gas Futures contracts on a daily basis as well as the Powernext® Gas Futures Monthly Index at the end of each month.

Powernext SA, incorporated in 2001, manages several complementary, transparent and anonymous energy markets. In May 2008, Powernext and EEX, the German energy exchange, announced the cooperation of their respective electricity markets. This cooperation will ensure a transparent and reliable wholesale price formation mechanism as well as standardisation and harmonisation of the trading and clearing processes. It includes Germany, France, Austria and Switzerland, covering more than one third of the European consumption of electricity.

An essential milestone in the framework of the power trading cooperation between EEX AG and Powernext SA has been reached with the contribution of the Powernext power futures to EEX Power Derivatives GmbH on 1 April 2009. EPD, held at 20% by Powernext and at 80% by EEX, will continue power derivatives trading for France in accordance with the cooperation agreement.

EPEX Spot SE is a Paris-based company held at equal parts by EEX and Powernext which integrated their entire spot power trading activities in the joint company. The product range includes spot power trading for France, Germany/Austria and Switzerland. In July 2009, a harmonised market model will become effective for the trading participants operating on these power spot markets.
